see the "Life During Wartime - Heads" drawings

For many years I have collected and worked with images from Life Magazines, produced during the 1940’s. From advertisements urging support of the war effort, to articles, drawings, recipes, and photos expressive of ideals of family, motherhood, neighborhood, and success, I have been fascinated by the world portrayed in Life magazine. The series “Life During Wartime//Heads” consists of 25 drawings. Each features a significant full page advertisement from a war era Life magazine with a highly detailed pen and ink drawing integrated into the ad. The drawings of the muffled heads reflect and relate tot he content in the advertisement in ways that are meant to be both poignant, beautiful a little sad and a little funny.
